Typically I do not post a lot about myself, I prefer to focus on the books, but I needed an easier topic for this week’s post. I am in the middle of several books and school assignments at the moment, so I’m too scatterbrained for any reviews or recommendation lists. Anyways, I hope you enjoy learning a little more about me!
Favorite genre?
I am a lover of realistic fiction, specifically YA realistic fiction. It takes up ninety-five percent of what I read, and the other five percent is nonfiction texts. While I do love YA I am currently trying to expand my horizons and read more classic literature.
How many hours do you spend reading a week?
For reference, I am a full-time high school student-athlete, so my day to day is pretty busy, but reading is my go-to downtime activity. Whether it is in class between assignments, after lunch, on the bus, or before I go to bed I try to read as much as I can. Overall I probably average roughly three to four hours a week.
Most re-read books?
My go-to re-read is the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy by Jenny Han. Honestly, I don’t think I could even speak fairly on the behalf of the books because I have such a strong emotional connection to the series. Every time I have read them it has been a trivial point for me so the books just feel homey. Also, who doesn’t love Lara Jean??
Least favorite tropes?
WHITE MALE SAVIOR!!!!! Ugh! It makes my blood boil, and it is overwhelmingly prevalent in YA. I, nor any other self-respecting female, need a mediocre skinny white boy to solve all their problems. I see it way too often in books that are supposed to be about cross-cultural relationships and it makes me so upset. We need more representation where one ethnicity is not being white-washed.
Guilty Pleasure Read?
Any cheesy rom-com like YA novel really makes my heart sing, but my ultimate guilty pleasure read is Coming Up for Air by Miranda Kenneally. It is the only fiction I have ever found about swimmers, and it has my favorite best friends to lovers trope. It’s just cheesy and romantic and makes me feel so cozy.
How many books are on your to-read list?
Currently, I have thirty-five books in my Goodreads to-read list, but that’s a little unrealistic. Realistically I have four books on my mental read-soon-please list. On Goodreads, I typically save any book that looks good, but I forget about them quickly.
Digital or Hard Copy?
While digital books are far more convenient (and cheaper) than hard copy books I love buying and collecting books. I don’t know why but I also read much faster when its a hard copy rather than on my laptop.
I know this different than what I typically post but I hoped you enjoyed learning a little more about me! Until next time, Bookish Babble.
